From Veteran to Bus Company Owner
Since today is Veteran's Day, I thought it would be a good time to talk about my Veteran and how Lucky Dog Bus came to be. My husband, Lance, served over 20 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard. He spent the majority of that time commuting once a month from TN to OH, where he would work as a crew chief on F-16 fighter jets. In fact, if it weren't for Lance's military service, Lucky Dog Bus would not even exist. When Lance retired from the military, he really missed "turning a wrench" and working on airplanes. A few years after Lance's retirement from the Air National Guard, Lance went to lunch with a new friend, Bill. Bill began to talk about his family and how they loved going camping and traveling ...in a completely refurbished vintage BUS. It didn't take long for Lance to catch this "bus fever" and soon our family purchased a vintage bus. Lance spent countless hours and quite a bit of $$ restoring the bus to its former glory. Due to the bus's famous history as a Budweiser bus, we named her Miss Budweiser aka Miss Bud. We packed up our young family and began camping in Middle TN on the weekends. But the "bus fever" didn't stop there for Lance. To make a very long story a bit shorter, Lance bought another bus...and then another bus. Evidently, one bus was just not enough. It was time for me to be the party pooper and put the brakes on this bus thing. I told my husband that enough was enough. We just couldn't collect vintage buses...no matter how cool they were!
Lance, being the entrepreneur that he is, saw an opportunity. You see, from his downtown office (Lance is also a mortgage banker), he got a front-row seat to Nashville's booming tourism industry. Seeing buses and tractors lining the streets with bachelorettes from all over the country (aka the WOOHOO girls), Lance had a light bulb moment. Lance had figured out how to keep his precious buses by providing a niche transportation service to the Music City and surrounding areas. Well, the rest is history! Lucky Dog Bus, named after our feisty dog Lucky, now consists of a fleet of 6 (with more to come). 2 of our buses have been featured in movies (Patsy and Loretta) and music videos (Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa; Ashland Craft). All four can be seen cruising around Middle TN, taking VIP clients to weddings, corporate events, concerts, Christmas Light Tours, trips to Jack Daniels Distillery, etc.... Lance takes pride in Lucky Dog Bus, just as he took pride in serving his country!
So here's to our growing family business and here's to every Veteran who has sacrificed so much for this country! God Bless our Veterans and God Bless the USA!
